Bird Safari and fishing

Those wanting a living and unique experience from nature should join a bird safari on the 65 ft boat "Havsula". Apart for pre- arranged tours, Gjesvµr Turistsenter also offers daily departures.

The tour starts from Gjesvµr and goes to the nature reserve called Gjesvµrstappan 15 km west of North Cape. Landing is not permitted in the archipelago but one can observe Finnmark's largest colony of puffins and enormous flocks of kittiwake from the boat. Puffins, characteristic with their colourful bills, nest in holes on the grassy banks and then during the nesting season from 1. April to 15. August, life teems on and above the land.

Majestic sea eagles can be spotted as they soar looking for prey. Divers, razor-bills, cormorants, Arctic skua, fulmars, Arctic divers and the huge gannets are also part of the abundant birdlife at Gjesvµrstappan. In the autumn, one may be lucky to catch sight of Europe's smallest seabird, the storm petrel.

The tour then moves on to fishing grounds best known by the crew. They will help with the fishing tackle and will be happy to tell local stories and legends.
